Disney, Univision to Start a Cable News Channel
The channel is set to target Latinos who are Bilingual or English speakers, due to the onset of stark demographic chagnes. until now Univision has ventures tentaively and with little fanfare into English-language effort, not wanting to undercut its core message that Hispanics speak Spanish and so advertisers need to buy Univision to reach them. The company is well aware of the changing demographics, and the Hispanic population conitues to grow and to cater to the linguistic split, there a growing effort to offer language choices.

I think this is a great move for Univision. It has such a high viewership amongst Hispanics in the US; putting on English programming that may help their viewers learn and practice the language is in the best interest of the people. More and more, Americans are being introduced to Spanish/English-language broadcasts, such as through cartoons like Dora the Explorer; having a show that targets Hispanics and serves the same ends is great.
ReplyDeleteThis move is quite impressive. Disney is trying to reach the international markets in order to increase their profits. Their decision of entering the Latin American market is quite an intelligent move. These emerging markets are offering new opportunities for international companies. This will definitely me an opportunity for Disney to expand to the Latin American market while merging with a national media company. This is a good form of entrance in order to mitigate the risks.
